Dear , We just found out some Montreal's NDG-CDN councillors are attempting to pass Wednesday - tomorrow - the contentious IHRA antisemitism re-definition. Make no mistake, antisemitism and all bigotry must be fought - but this divisive and contentious re-definition is designed by the pro-Israel lobby to threaten and silence residents who support Palestinian rights or who criticize Israel's discrimination and violence against Palestinians.
Take action now! Click here to send an email to borough mayor Sue Montgomery and CDN-NDG councillors to say yes to fighting antisemitism, and no to the IHRA! This motion comes two weeks after Israel's leading human rights organization, B'tselem issued an explosive report that Israel is an apartheid state due to its treatment of Palestinians.
If the IHRA re-definition of antisemitism is passed, residents of the borough who speak out or plan to support Palestinian rights will be open to defamation as anti-Semites, and face municipal and legal sanctions or worse. The two pro-Israel organizations in Canada supporting the IHRA campaign have already shown their willingness to weaponize the IHRA definition against Canadians critical of Israel.
The last headache NDG-CDN residents need is divisive public fights, threats and lawsuits between residents, organizations, lawyers and the borough administration.
Tell the NDG-CDN councillors now to reject the divisive IHRA motion at tomorrow's (Wednesday Jan 27) meeting.
If you live in Montreal, and especially if you're a CDN-NDG resident, we encourage you to call your councillor and tell them not to adopt the divisive and contentious IHRA re-definition of antismeitism.
