Hours and duration: This is a one-year, full-time (35 hours per week) contract with the possibility of renewal.

Remuneration and conditions:  Total annual pay $59,275.96, including 5% in lieu of pension; $300/ mo. home office expense stipend; four weeks vacation (prorated); 5 religious holidays (prorated) and a strong benefits package after 3 months probation.

Who we are

Independent Jewish Voices Canada (IJV) is a grassroots organization grounded in Jewish tradition that opposes all forms of racism and advocates for justice and peace for all in Palestine-Israel. Our strength comes from our members. IJV has active chapters in cities and on university campuses across the country. Our work focuses on Palestine solidarity, anti-racism and Indigenous solidarity, and fostering justice-oriented Jewish communities. 

About the Position: 

The Campaigns Coordinator will lead national grassroots activist campaigns, including IJV’s Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) committee. This role is central to mobilizing members, chapters, and supporters into meaningful political action. The ideal candidate is an experienced organizer with strong political analysis, deep knowledge of Palestine solidarity and Jewish communities in Canada, and a commitment to justice. This position involves campaign strategy, coalition-building, digital and direct action, and organizational collaboration. 

Campaigns (60%)

  • Act as lead member of the staff team on national grassroots activist campaigns, including via IJV’s Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Committee
  • Develop strategies and tools to involve chapters and members/supporters in political campaigns related to IJV’s strategic plan and in service of IJV’s current strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with the Membership Engagement Coordinator to bring people into action and help make IJV their political home
  • Monitor news developments in relation to the Jewish community, Palestine and other relevant issues, especially in relation to IJV campaigns
  • Identify opportunities for short and long-term campaigns and actions
  • Mobilize chapters and members so that they are well-resourced to take action for both national and local campaigns
  • Provide training and resources to members for digital actions, phone zaps, and live interventions including protest and direct actions 
  • Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with allied organizations and envision joint campaigns
  • Work collaboratively with members, supporters and staff to develop campaign materials and digital action tools
  • Responsible for digital action toolkit and collaborating with the staff team to integrate these tools efficiently into the broader organizational tech stack
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of a strong security and privacy culture
  • Identify opportunities for fundraising as linked to campaigns

Communications (20%)

  • May be called upon to represent IJV, including through presentations, public speaking, and media interviews
  • Play a core role in crafting effective messaging as it relates to campaigns and mobilization
  • Support the development of popular education materials as they directly relate to campaigns and mobilization, including social media content 
  • Help identify and at times contribute to drafting communications materials, including social media posts and e-blasts as needed
  • Help ensure a timely and appropriate response to campaign-related relevant developments 
  • Support strategic media engagement as it pertains to campaigns

General responsibilities and Collective management (20%)

  • Participate in joint prioritization and accountability/feedback mechanisms
  • Particulate in strategic planning and annual reporting
  • Participate in fundraising efforts as relevant
  • Attend monthly Steering Committee meetings along with all staff
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and quarterly staff-personnel meetings
  • Participate as a staff representative in Executive committee meetings on a rotating basis
  • Cover for other staff as required

Skills

  • Written and oral proficiency in French is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated experience with building and carrying out effective grassroots campaigns and mass mobilization
  • Involvement in the Palestine solidarity movement and possibly other movement organizing (e.g. union organizing, climate justice, anti-racism work)
  • Sharp political analysis and understanding of the Canadian political system and relevant power structures
  • Familiarity with provincial and municipal politics is an asset
  • Current, in-depth knowledge and critical analysis of the situation in Palestine and a strong commitment to the global movement for Palestinian human rights 
  • In-depth familiarity with and understanding of Jewish communities in Canada
  • Skilled working collaboratively in a team setting
  • Organic leader and initiative-taker
  • Ability to prioritize work autonomously while ensuring strategic cohesion with other staff
  • Ability to self-manage and maintain project management in a remote work environment with several competing priorities and deadlines
  • Understanding of practical and theoretical approaches to grassroots organizing, mobilizing, and activism at large
  • Ability to set measurable, strategic goals
  • Demonstrated experience working with movement allies, understanding of positionality and the impact of identity in community organizing
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression politics, diversity, equity, and inclusion
