In collaboration with Just Peace Advocates and Miles Howe, PhD, IJV has released a new report which details how funds ostensibly intended for charitable purposes are instead being directed toward activities linked to war crimes in Palestine.
The report identifies five organizations who are using taxpayer-supported funds to aid activities that contravene both Canadian and international law:
- Mizrachi Organization of Canada: a major financial conduit for far-right Religious Zionist movements supporting settler violence and military assistance.
- Jewish Heritage Foundation of Canada: a ‘burner charity’ funding Israeli settler groups.
- Ronnen Harary Foundation: has provided millions to the Jerusalem Municipality, an instrument of land expropriation.
- Canada Charity Partners: facilitates Canadian tax-deductible donations for organizations involved in the illegal occupation of the West Bank.
- Heseg Foundation: incentivizes military enlistment in Israel with scholarships for ‘Lone Soldiers’.
The Government of Canada has the power—and the responsibility—to ensure that our charitable sector aligns with Canadian and international laws. We must take action now.
Please join us in writing to the Canada Revenue Agency, Minister Bibeau and other MPs urging them to immediately suspend the charitable status of organizations found to be aiding and abetting war crimes and crimes against humanity, and to prosecute them to the full effect of the Criminal Code.
With your voice, we can push for a stronger, more principled stance from Canada on human rights in Palestine. Our tax dollars should not be subsidizing war crimes!
